What Happens When You Don’t Emphasize Mental Health?
3 Big Takeaways From This Episode
-
You’re not the first person to launch a brand while also working full-time and you won’t be the last. In order to do this effectively, it’s important to strike a balance in your world that allows you to do both to the best of your ability. Don’t try to move too fast or accomplish too much all at once or else several things could unravel…including your mental health
-
When your mental health is out of sorts, you’re no good to anyone. You can’t do your job effectively or serve those who need you. It’s imperative to prioritize mental health and never ignore the key items your mind and body need – sleep, proper nutrition, exercise, social interaction, and more
-
Time blocking will play a key role in your ability to effectively manage launching and maintaining a brand while also working full-time. Set non-negotiable times with yourself on a daily basis and use those times to accomplish the most important tasks in front of you

How to Balance Launching a Brand While Working a Full-Time Job
Launching a new brand is never easy. Even if you have an abundance of time on your hands, the rigors of ensuring everything runs smoothly demands a lot from you.
So what happens when you want to launch a new brand…but also have a full-time job?
Guess what? Those demands don’t change! It’s on you to effectively manage your time so your brand gets off the ground while you don’t shirk responsibilities at your full-time gig.
If you have aspirations of launching your own business AND you have a full-time job, you’re not alone. In fact, this is how many new brands get their start.
So how do you manage it? Take advice from someone who’s doing it every day!
Michele Colella is working full-time while simultaneously running a successful business in Pittsburgh known as The Beauty Boost. She also manages to have a social life and finds time for the things she loves week in and week out.
She shares her strategies for making this happen throughout this episode, but here are a few to get you started:
-
Build a support system – don’t try to do everything alone. This doesn’t mean hire a bunch of people you can’t afford to pay. Find business mentors and support groups that will help you keep things balanced and on track
-
Find resources that can help you do it right – “you don’t know what you don’t know”
-
Take small bites and do what you can manage. Don’t get intimidated by getting started
-
Play to your strengths, get help with your weaknesses
-
Establish a strong ‘why’ and let it guide you in everything you do
-
Time block – get very disciplined about when you can work on your business, when you’re working your full-time job, and when you have time for recreational activities. If you want to learn more about time blocking, pick up the book The One Thing
What Happens When You Don’t Emphasize Mental Health?
In the simplest of terms, things start to derail rather quickly. You may think you have a firm handle on everything that’s happening and issues may seem small, but even the small things compound into a much larger problem over time.
If your mental health is off-balance, you’re no good to anyone. You can’t be at your best for those you serve, whether it’s at your full-time job, building your brand, or your loved ones at home.
To keep mental health a priority in life, it’s important to establish balance and remember your ‘why’ that I mentioned in the last section.
Here are a few items to keep front of mind that will help you keep your mental health in check:
-
Do things you love, spend time with people you love
-
Prioritize what you need most – sleep, food, exercise, having a social life. These need to be non-negotiable
-
Learn how to say no to things that don’t serve your purpose
-
Let yourself evolve and accept that relationships will change. Some relationships may even fade away
