According to Neal Schaffer, there are approximately 2.5 million podcasts listed on Apple Podcasts…but only around 450,000 of them are actively producing new content (as of June 2023).
That’s over 2 million podcasts that have faded away.
Digging a little deeper, according to a thread on Reddit, 90% of podcasts don’t get beyond their 3rd episode.
THAT…is scary.
But I get it. Podcasting seems sexy on the surface.

There are a number of reasons those 2 million+ podcasts could’ve gone belly up, but my guess is the creators launched their shows without one or any combination of the following:
